Club History

Southern Cross Swimming Club started in 2004 after Coach Steve Hadler took over as Head Coach. The pool had previously been the home to Redcliffe Leagues Lawnton Swimming Club under Ken Wood, who moved to the Redcliffe War Memorial Pool after it was enclosed in late 2001.

This Catholic Leader Article from October 06 shows the growing involvment of SCSC in the College and community.

The new club's first competitor was a 6yr old Aurora Kellam-Pearson who competed in the 25m events at the Kingaroy Open in January 2005. The Brisbane Age & Open Meet in March 2006 was our first attendance at a Regional Championship represented by the 3 swimmers from the Hann family. By mid 2006 the club was in full swing, attending local meets and sending a team to the Club's first QLD Championships in December 2006, which included future olympians Blake Cochrane and Jayden Hadler. October 2006 also saw the start of Club Nights at SCSC.

The Club continued to grow, but age was starting to show on the facilities. In December 2011, the College removed the old grandstand and club house from underneath, and left the concrete pad behind. 6 month later the concrete was removed and artificial grass put down. The old College Groundsmen's shed was converted into the new Club House and an awning added in 2016.
